THE COTTAGE by Sandy Rustin
The Barn will premiere THE COTTAGE, a sensational, side-splitting farce by Sandy Rustin, this Wednesday, June 25th, at 7:30 p.m. The show will run from Wednesday to Sunday for two weeks, with the help of our partners at Zachary Confections.
THE COTTAGE is the story of Sylvia and Beau, who, once a year, leave their respective spouses for a romantic rendezvous in an English country cottage. While Sylvia dreams of a life together, Beau is not as enthusiastic. Complications arise, and the treachery is compounded as both Sylvia’s and Beau’s spouses arrive unexpectedly at the cottage. This outrageously funny show is packed with endless laughs, hilarious twists, daring physical comedy, and a happy ending for all.
In an all-too-rare treat, Artistic Director Michael Taylor will bring his animated physical acting and comic timing back to the stage as he portrays Beau. Sylvia will be played by the talented Chicago-based actor Katherine Abel, who has previously performed in the Marvelous Wonderettes, Who’s In Bed With The Butler?, and Bright Star here at the Barn. Red Barn veteran Kiara Wood (Tarzan, Young Frankenstein) will play Marjorie, Kody Horrocks (Keep The Change, Lone Star Love Potion), a second-year returnee to the Barn, plays Dierdre. We’re welcoming two newcomers to the Barn this year—Ben Brickner will play the role of Richard, and Matthew Reich will play Clarke. THE COTTAGE is directed by Luke McLaughlin, with Set Design by Michael Taylor.
For the special Opening Nights! performance, NHK Seating of America will bring Frankfort native Gibson Wells, the talented musician/producer, to the Heather’s Flowers Music Stage before THE COTTAGE premiere. Gibson will perform from 6:15 to 7:15, and the Cellar will be offering refreshments at that time, and every patron attending will receive a show-themed cookie by Gina VanSickle of Lafayette for the ride home.
So come see this over-the-top, hilarious comedy about love, secrets, and secret love on Opening Night! If not then, then come when you can—but you won’t want to miss this madcap farce.
