Ancestors & Family History

Join us for this presentation at 1:00-2:00pm on Saturday, June 21, in the Fort Totten Little Theater.

Fort Totten has an extensive history ranging from its military days to its time as a boarding school. In this adult focused hands-on session, you will learn how to map out your own family tree and discover valuable resources to help trace your ancestry.

This session will be presented by Eunice Davidson, a member of the Spirit Lake Tribe. Eunice developed a passion for genealogy in 2006 when her family faced a lawsuit about the 1862 Upraising. Raised in a foster home on Spirit Lake reservation, Eunice did not know her family history or who her ancestors were.

Upon completing her education at Black Hills State University, Eunice enrolled in an online career college to further her knowledge in genealogy. After approximately one year of study, she received her certification as a genealogist in March 2020.
Eunice became a member of an online genealogist group, where she received mentorship for five years and helped people from various regions, including Indian country.
Eunice attributes her interest peaked in history and genealogy due to her summer job at Fort Totten State Historical Site and her role as Director and Curator at the Lake Region Heritage Center.
