Jackson Pelz is a musician, songwriter and composer located in Crown Heights, New York City. Growing up in Western North Carolina, Jackson was exposed to folk, bluegrass, and country styles of music at a young age, however in his first band in highschool he stuck to playing bass in a prog-rock group. Although music is his primary art form, he began taking musical theater classes at The Flat Rock Playhouse at a young age, which led him to study theater at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. While at UNCSA, he began to play music and start bands with friends he met in his class and in other departments, two of which are still making music today (“Opines” and “The Buca Brothers”). This is also where he met Isabelle Bushue and began working on the Musical “Plant”. Jackson loves all forms of music, but at heart he is constantly enamored with folk guitar, American Primitive/Folk compositions, and anything that is willing to take the time to be thoroughly absurd. His underlying practice in writing music is to create music that is constantly changing, no matter the format. He released his first solo EP, “SudButter”, under the name Saint Howie earlier this year. When not working on his own musical projects in NYC, he is often teaching chess and writing music for any friends that need soundtracks for their own theater shows.
