Explore the Whitewater of the Salmon River Watershed!
Join friends old and new for a weekend of whitewater fun in the stunning spring conditions of the Salmon River watershed! We have an exceptional snowpack this year, so there’s plenty of water, making it likely that we’ll be able to paddle just about any of the 100 miles of whitewater here—from Class II to V, roadside to wilderness hike-in runs. It’s all free-flowing, wild, and waiting for you!
All crafts welcome! Kayaks, rafts, catarafts, packrafts, whitewater canoes, SUPs, inflatable sofas, tubes—you name it, just keep it safe. There's also hiking, biking, and lots to do on land.
This is an unorganized, unofficial gathering—no program, no organizer. The people who show up make it what it is. Bring your positive energy, your friends and family, instruments, boats, bikes, other toys, food, and libations. As always, leave no trace!
Camp at Nordheimer Campground, four miles downstream of Forks of Salmon. Campsites are $8/night (cash only), and the Forest Service will check payments. The campground has picnic tables, fire rings (permit required), and bathrooms, but no potable water—bring all you need. The campground serves as the take-out for Class II and III runs and the put-in for a Class IV/V run, with other runs nearby.
It's also Mother’s Day. Bring your mom—or at least impress her by calling from the public payphone at the campground (calling card or 1-800-COLLECT required). There's no cell service, no internet—just you, the river, and the mountains.
