We're a community-based group in Williamstown inviting knitters of all skill levels to help craft Red Cross Trauma Teddy bears—handmade gifts that bring warmth and comfort to children during difficult times.
Whether you’re a lifelong knitter or just picking up needles for the first time, your efforts can make a meaningful difference. Our bears are sent to hospitals and emergency services, providing a little hug when it’s needed most.
We provide the Red Cross Trauma Teddy pattern, starter kits, support, and friendly connections so you can knit at home or join local meetups right here in Hobsons Bay.
🧶 If you're bringing your own supplies, please use 8 ply wool or acrylic yarn and 3mm (11) or 3.25mm (10) needles to ensure your teddy meets Red Cross standards. Starter kits will also be available for purchase at sessions.
🧶 Prefer to knit teddy skins only? That’s perfectly fine! Just follow the knitting instructions carefully and tie the two halves together. You’re welcome to drop off the completed pieces at one of our Teddy Drop-in sessions, and we’ll take care of sewing and finishing them to Red Cross standards.
🧶Quality and safety are important for all Trauma Teddies. Your local coordinator inspects every Trauma Teddy. Once passed, a Red Cross label will be sewn on to the Trauma Teddy by a Red Cross coordinator or at a Teddy Finishing School.
