History for Lunch: Becoming American: The Life, Service, and Sacrifice of Colonel Edward Buncombe

Local historian Chris Barber will explore how Tyrrell County’s hero of the American Revolution, Col. Edward Buncombe, became American by choice. She will focus on the final 10 years of Buncombe’s remarkable life, including his service in the Continental Line with the 5th Regiment of the North Carolina Brigade. Buncombe was injured in the 1777 Battle of Germantown, Pennsylvania, and taken prisoner by the British. Having never obtained proper medical care, he died the following year and was buried in Philadelphia.
