Join the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) and the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust (PRLT), for an informational and invigorating group hike at the East Windham Conservation Area—part of Southern Maine’s largest conservation corridor. A staff member from the PRLT will lead talks during the hike, explaining the unique features of the property and how it came to be with the Town of Windham, as well as other local partners. This hike is the first of a three-part hiking series between the AMC Maine Chapter and local land trusts of Southern Maine that explores the themes of conservation, climate change and community.
Conserved in September 2023, the East Windham conservation Area spans 700 acres of permanently protected land, roughly the size of Bradbury Mountain State Park. It forms part of a 2,000-acre wildlife habitat conservation corridor that connects with properties in Falmouth--the largest of its kind in Southern Maine.
Highlights include: panoramic views of the White Mountains, rich forested landscapes, a granite quarry and the serene Little Duck Pond. This hike is approximately 3 miles long on hilly terrain with varied surfaces. Whether you're interested in conservation, building community connections, or simply enjoying the outdoors, this event is a great opportunity to learn more about the conservation success story that is the East Windham Conservation Area and get involved in a meaningful way.
Please bring hiking boots or sneakers, water, snacks, bug repellent and sunscreen. There is a large designated parking area with plenty of spaces at the trailhead where we will meet.
