June Workshop ~ YOU CAN DO IT! Hands-On Grave Marker Restoration & Cleaning

Join us on Saturday, June 7, at 9:00 a.m. in the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery on Hwy. 52E for the 3rd in the series of cemetery care programs sponsored by the Gilmer County Genealogical Society. Come prepared for a hands-on experience by wearing your sunscreen, work clothes, hat, and sunglasses as you participate in the restoration during this workshop at the Ebenezer Cemetery. We will be cleaning, foiling, repairing a broken stone, resetting a marker with a slot base, and using a tripod for heavy lifting needed for larger resetting and foundation repair.

The workshop will be led by Beverly Hill and Richard Holt, both having participated in four days of hands-on preservation instruction from the nation’s foremost specialist, Jonathan Appell of Atlas Preservation. Join in to ask questions and learn the tools, techniques, and compounds needed to help you care for your own family markers. The best way to learn something new – seeing, hearing, and doing! [Be prepared for uneven walking, common in our local cemeteries.]
