July Workshop ~ Searching FindAGrave.com

The 4th and final installment in the Cemetery Series sponsored by the Gilmer County Genealogical Society will focus on exploring the free website FindAGrave.com, home to more than 250 million gravestone memorials around the world. It is a remarkable free resource for family history, crowd-sourced by thousands of contributors that could include you! The class will be held in the Gilmer County Public Library at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12. Rebecca Holt Amerson will be sharing site navigation, search strategies, and the tools that will make this one of your go-to resources in family history. You will learn to be a knowledgeable user as well as a novice contributor to this enormous database, now a part of Ancestry.com.

You will be able to locate the 123 Gilmer County cemeteries listed on the website by using the GPS coordinates provided. You will also be able to find burial information for family members, upload photographs, add biographical information to the record, and connect generations of family members to each other. Bring your laptop and join us to get acquainted with this free website that will fast become one of the top web resources in your genealogy toolbox!
