Sunday, June 29th, 10 – 2:00. Come dye with us! Learn to extract a host of beautiful colors–offerings from the natural world around us. In this workshop, you will learn the basics of dyeing yarn, what mordants are and how to use them to shift colors, and go home with a rainbow of hand dyed minis!
Depending on the seasonal availability we will be working with a mixture of locally foraged dyestuffs as well as commercially sourced natural dyes. Some of the dyestuffs we might be working with: Dyers Polypore, Lungwort, Indigo, Madder Root, Cochineal, Oak Galls, Black Walnuts, and more!
In every class will produce at least four vats, working with four different natural dyes. There will be some downtime in this class, so please bring something to keep your hands busy while we let the dye do its magic! Everything is included in this class, but if you have small pieces of fabric or minis that you would like to dye, feel free to bring them with you, and we can discuss during class.
This class is being offered at a discount from Kasteyl’s usual class fee since it is her first time teaching out of our studio– wonderful opportunity to take advantage of being a guinea pig as she works out the kinks of teaching in a new space!
Note: Masking is required when we are handling powdered dyestuffs for your safety and lung health. Masks may be removed once measuring and mixing has been completed”
