Welcome to A Ritual of Rest: Waist Beading Workshop!

We, at Black Woman’s Health Collective, believe that the Black woman is the Mother of all humanity. That the Black woman is divine. It is in the spirit of their inherent value that we invite you to join us in observing the ritual of rest and rejuvenation with a Waist Beading workshop facilitated by Osunyemi Oyebanji Oluyemisi.

Osunyemi is the owner of Neti's, which specializes in handmade Cultural African attire and accessories. For nearly a decade, Osunyemi has helped others cultivate, accentuate, and explore their own unique ideas of femininity. Osunyemi enjoys beadwork, textiles, and other mediums of expressive art and fashion.

In reverence for the Ritual of Rest we invite you to be a participant at this workshop on Friday, 5/30/2025 from 7-9pm at Through the Grapevine in Durham, NC.

Attendance for this event is limited and will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. We can only accommodate a maximum of 15 participants, so please ensure you secure your spot promptly if you wish to attend.

Please be aware that the "A Ritual of Rest: Waist Beading Workshop" is designed specifically for Black women and girls. We believe in creating safe and supportive spaces where Black women and girls can connect, heal, and grow together. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming those who identify within these communities.

We will be providing light refreshments for attendees. To make the most of the session and ensure a cohesive learning experience for everyone, we kindly request that you make every effort to arrive on time. This will allow all participants to start together and stay aligned throughout the event.Please be advised that this event is situated on the second floor. The venue is wheelchair accessible; however, there is a slight ramp upon reaching the second floor. This in-person event is the perfect opportunity to learn about the ancient art of waist beading and create your own unique piece to take home.

During the workshop, you will be guided through the process of selecting beads, designing your waist beads, and stringing them together. Whether you're a beginner or have experience with beading, this workshop is open to all levels.

Waist beads are not only a beautiful form of self-expression but also a way to connect with your body and embrace your femininity. So come unwind, get creative, and leave with a beautiful piece of jewelry made by you!
