South Georgia is coming to Dundee to celebrate whales, polar exploration and Scotland’s connection to this incredible island! Our exciting Whale of a Weekend festival will take place from Friday 27 to Sunday 29 June 2025 at Dundee Waterfront.

Whale Puppet workshop - 10am-12:30pm
Juniper Auditorium, V&A Dundee
Join a dancer, sculptor, and illustrator to create whale puppets and bring them to life through movement and storytelling. Participants will help choreograph and perform them along the waterfront between V&A Dundee and RRS Discovery, celebrating Dundee’s maritime connection to South Georgia. Book here:

Meet the Whalers’ Memory Bank team - 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm
Whaling Exhibition, Discovery Point

Whale Stories - 10am-2:30pm
Storytelling sessions during the day at Discovery Point Storyteller and Local History officer Erin Farley will take visitors on a journey full of whales’ tales, memories and adventure. Drop in any time!
Whale Tales from the Natural History Museum - 11am-12pm
Auditorium, Discovery Point
Meet Principal Curator Richard Sabin and historian Sophia Nicolov from the Natural History Museum in London to learn more about the whale collection. Find out how these amazing specimens are helping us learn more about whales today, including around South Georgia. Reserve your spot:
