Shalom Spirituality Center
βThe spiritual dance has no other purpose, no other aim than to elevate humankind beyond self-thought, to joy, to bliss, to realization and to peace. The sincere dancer is one of the best workers for universal harmony and so for universal peace. Actually, although we seem to be in a world of song and dance, we are most concerned about peace on earth.β
~ Murshid Samuel Lewis, the founder of the Dances
The Dances of Universal Peace can variously be described as Spiritual Folk Dance, Moving Meditation, or Embodied Prayer. A form of peace through the arts, the Dances are experiential in nature. The Dances unfold in an atmosphere of unity and connectedness, as we use sacred phrases, music, and simple movements inspired by many spiritual traditions.
The evening will be led by Morgan Rivers, who has led a monthly circle in Des Moines since 2004 and has helped sponsor multiple retreats with visiting leaders. Old hands and new arrivals form the circle; no experience is necessary.
A free-will donation is appreciated. Walk-ins are welcome, but RSVPs are encouraged; please RSVP online at shalomretreats.org or by calling 563.582.3592 by Tuesday, September 9.
