Whether in the pursuit of professional or amateur excellence, yoga can be a powerful tool in the life of an active person.
Not to be missed if you:
* are an amateur or professional athlete looking to up your game
* movement therapist or coach working with athletes
* yoga teacher looking to expand your knowledge and influence
With a focus on how "one size does not fit all", and how yoga can
significantly impact your amateur or professional sports performance. Jim shares proven yoga techniques, working with
functional movement, breathing, and mental exercises to take your performance to the next level.
Understanding the athlete's body
"Athlete" is a broad term, covering anyone from avid tri-athlete enthusiasts to Premier League footballers. Each type of activity
produces a different type of athlete. Learn how to adapt yoga practice to suit the needs of the individual
If it's not broken, don't fix it
Posture types, misalignment, and imbalances are common, but in athletes, they may be more pronounced.
In this workshop examine the do's and don'ts when it comes to common misalignment in athletes, how to
work with them in order to improve athletic performance
Sequencing for athletes
Jim distills information and methodology gathered over several years of yoga-based work with sports people.
These principles for sequencing for athletic performance can be applied and used by athletes, coaches, trainers and yoga teachers for a wide variety of sporting endeavors.
Rather than a set of instructions for exercises or routines to be learned and applied by rote, it is hoped that these guidelines and principles will help the coach, therapist or yoga trainer to develop individualised programs to bring about the best possible results for health, wellbeing, and success.
Preventing and rehabilitating sports injuries
"One bad injury can end a sports career"
Effectively preventing and treating an injury is key for both amateur and professional athletes.
Jim will cover yoga-based prevention and rehabilitation techniques for over-use injuries, typical shoulder-girdle injuries, typical
pelvis and groin injuries as well as typical knee injuries.
The prevention of injury can extend a career by several years: Ryan Giggs and Rahul Dravid are both examples of professional athletes who use yoga as prehab and rehab with great success.
