MARLAY HOUSE ART EXHBITION “ENCHANTED BY MARLAY”
‘Enchanted by Marlay’ is a joint art exhibition featuring local artists Kate Bedell, Helen Hyland, Yelena Kosikh, and Jennifer Rowe. The exhibition will be hosted in the ballroom of Marlay House, running over three days. The opening will be officiated by local historian Peadar Curran.
Admission is free and the show will be open to the public Friday 25th to Sunday 27th of July from 10 am to 4pm.
Celebrating Marlay Park’s fiftieth anniversary of being in public ownership, ‘Enchanted by Marlay’ endeavours to convey the artists’ deep appreciation for Marlay as a place of inspiration grounding their work, and to contribute creatively to the community. The initiative by the council to regenerate the courtyard with small creative businesses has provided a space for the arts to thrive and continues to add to the unfolding story of the park. The artists have studios in the Marlay Craft Courtyard where they create and sell their original work. By teaching and hosting workshops they also nurture future generations of artists.
A selection of work in a range of mediums including watercolour, oil, silk, and encaustic (beeswax) painting will be showcased, making this a diverse and vibrant display of talent and artistic disciplines.
• Kate Bedell: The longest-standing member of the Courtyard group, and a member of the Water Colour Society of Ireland, will be showing her plein-air sketchbooks of Marlay alongside her watercolour paintings and prints.
• Helen Hyland: After a career in design and advertising, Helen began crafting bespoke stationery and has since fully embraced her identity as an artist and teacher, specializing in bold, textured oil paintings inspired by the nature in Marlay Park.
• Yelena Kosikh: A member of DCCI and Design Ireland, Yelena is known for her mastery of silk painting, batik, oil, and watercolour techniques. She also teaches art in selected schools across South Dublin, sharing her passion and expertise with the next generation of artists.
• Jennifer Rowe: Graduated with a B.A. Hons in animation from IADT. She specialises in
encaustic painting (an ancient art form, mixing pigment with beeswax and damar
resin). Her art is a blend of emotion and colour, flowing abstracts that capture the elemental energy of nature bringing a new and fresh perspective to the show. A fourth-generation artist and Kate's daughter.
A painting will be raffled for Breast Cancer Ireland and Marie Keating Foundation in Memorium, Marian Lovett
This exhibition is generously sponsored by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.
