Inclusive Futures is a one-day, in-person event bringing together leaders from acedemia, architecture, design, policymaking, industry, and advocacy to explore how Ireland can lead globally in neurodiverse and universally inclusive design.
The event will feature a series of discussions and panels aimed at providing practical, evidence-based guidance on embedding neurodiverse design thinking in our built environment.
Every person responds differently to sensory stimulation
Understanding how individuals are wired from a sensory perspective is a vital part of the design process. The way we intuitively respond to our surroundings affects how we live, work, learn, and engage with others.
If the environment does not support our needs, clear thinking and comfort become difficult. Among all senses, the auditory system is often the most easily overwhelmed. It is also the most compromised in people with sensory sensitivity.
Designing more inclusive spaces benefits everyone. When spaces support a wide range of sensory needs, employees experience improved focus, reduced stress and a greater sense of wellbeing. Flexibility is essential, as no two individuals respond to space in the same way.
