Deep learning is at the heart of today’s AI revolution, transforming industries and redefining technology. To help students build a strong foundation in this rapidly growing field, the IEEE NSU Student Branch Women in Engineering Affinity Group is hosting a hands-on workshop titled “Foundations of Deep Learning.” This session will offer participants a clear understanding of core deep learning concepts, explore its historical milestones, and provide practical experience training neural networks.
Leading the workshop is Dr. Sumaiya Tabassum Nimi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at North South University. She is a specialist in Deep Learning, Quantum Machine Learning, and Molecular ML, with a passion for simplifying complex ideas and making advanced AI topics accessible to all learners. Under her guidance, participants will explore neural network architectures, parameters, hyperparameters, and training processes in a clear, engaging manner.
The practical segment of the workshop will take place on Google Colab, where attendees will build and train basic deep learning models on benchmark datasets. Participants are expected to have a basic understanding of Python programming to make the most of the session. This is a great opportunity to develop essential AI skills that can boost your academic projects, research, and future career.
