Community Safe Sleep Education: Creating Safer Sleep Spaces for Our Babies

Event Description:

Every baby deserves a safe place to sleep and every parent deserves to feel confident in creating one.

Join us for “Community Safe Sleep Education,” a compassionate and culturally-informed workshop designed to support families with knowledge, tools, and community care to reduce the risk of sleep-related infant deaths.

In this workshop, we’ll explore:

• The latest global, national, and Detroit safe sleep data with empathy, not fear
• What safe sleep looks like in real life across homes, cultures, and caregiving styles
• How to talk to loved ones and caregivers about safe sleep without shame or conflict
• What to do when sleep is hard or when your baby just won’t lay flat
• Local resources, supports, and giveaways to help you build your baby's safe sleep space

💛 This space welcomes all:

• Expectant and new parents
• Grandparents, co-parents, and caregivers
• Families who have experienced loss
• Community leaders and birth workers

We approach this topic with care, not criticism.
We honor the love behind every decision. We hold space for grief, resilience, and learning. And we walk this path together because keeping babies safe is something we can and must do as a community.

Why It Matters:
Each year, thousands of infants die globally due to unsafe sleep environments largely preventable deaths.
🇺🇸 In the U.S., sleep-related deaths are a leading cause of infant mortality in babies under one. In Detroit, we are working to reduce one of the highest rates of infant mortality in the country, with the power of education, equity, and community support.
