In its recent incarnation, Detroit enjoys “it” city status and is now celebrated for its gritty urban cachet. While the streets see their share of tattooed indie kids wearing hoodies, defining Detroit by its hipster renaissance is too simple. Detroit clings tightly to deep-rooted traditions, particularly its storied Automotive heritage, its marquee pro-sports franchises, and a rich music scene that’s been the stomping ground for everyone from Aretha Franklin to Eminem. Although aside from this, there are also a rich list of outdoor adventures in Detroit. Top choices include Detroit lake camping and day trips in Detroit city.
Detroit Lake Camping is one of the best ways to spend an outdoor vacation with your loved ones like your friends, special someone or even your entire family. You are looking for sites for Camping near Detroit, you will eventually be led to Lake Detroit, one of the top camping spots in the area. Here, you can enjoy biking through the scenic routes, swimming in the clear waters of the lake, and boating through the lake and other water sports like water skiing and lake boarding. Other activities also include kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking and of course, fishing. You can also take a break from experiencing nature by spending a day in their hot springs at the Breitenbush Retreat and Conference Center.
You can take advantage of more outdoor adventure in Detroit by visiting some of the most popular Detroit adventure parks and theme parks. Stagecoach Stop USA is only an hour or so drive from the metropolitan city. It is a replica of a Western town complete with all kinds of frontier experiences such as riding in stagecoaches, realistic gun fight shows and old-fashioned saloons that serve root beer. Another is Crossroads Village and Huckleberry Railroad, a theme park in a 19th century village. It is the ideal place for a day out with the family such as working locomotives for train rides, gondolas and paddle-wheel river boats, carousels and costumed villagers. There is also the nearby amusement park of Cedar Point, a 2-in-1 park filled with rollercoasters and arcades as well as a working water park.
If adventure parks and lake-side camping is not your favorite kinds of activities, then you can always spend a day driving around the areas near the city of Detroit. There are myriads of routes that you can choose from for your road trips from Detroit. You can choose to take a drive from the center of the city to Point Pelee National Park in Ontario. The 40-mile trip will last for an hour and along the way, you will get to see calming natural vistas. About 90 miles north of the city is another great destination, Frankenmuth, Michigan, a town influenced by Bavarian culture. The drive will take you one and a half hours, and if you do get tired and hungry after the drive, you can eat your fill in restaurants such as Zehnder’s or the Bavarian Inn Restaurant.
