Course Description:
The orthograde root canal procedure is a cornerstone of modern dental practice, essential for maintaining oral health and addressing endodontic pathology. This course is specifically designed for registered doctors aiming to enhance their proficiency in this vital treatment modality.
As patients retain their natural teeth longer and expectations for dental care increase, mastering root canal procedures is essential to prevent complications such as late root fractures. This course bridges the divide between general practice and specialized techniques, equipping participants with advanced clinical skills and effective case selection criteria to achieve optimal patient outcomes and foster practice growth.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, participants will:
*Develop robust case selection criteria to enhance patient outcomes and practice profitability.
*Gain insights into the foundational sciences and evidence-based resources supporting contemporary endodontic techniques.
*Acquire clinical pearls in diagnosis, treatment planning, profound local anesthesia administration, canal access and instrumentation, and obturation.
*Learn advanced techniques that prioritize maximum dentin conservation while achieving irrigation and obturation goals.
*Implement strategies to streamline procedures, enhance patient experience, and ensure long-term treatment success.
“Live Patient” Practical Experience for Registered Doctors for Friday and Saturday: Participants will gain invaluable hands-on experience by applying newly acquired skills directly to live patients throughout the course. Individualized mentorship will support comprehensive learning and proficiency development.
Participants are encouraged to bring patients from their individual practices for treatment during Saturday sessions. Patient selection must receive pre-approval from the directors of the Washington AGD Endodontic facility. Additionally, a mandatory virtual case presentation to the group of registered participants and Endodontic facility directors is required. Presentation dates will be coordinated by the directors in collaboration with participating doctors.
Meet Your Instructors:
Arash Niazi DDS
Dr. Niazi obtained his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from Case Western Reserve University in 2003. After practicing for five years as a general dentist, he attended the endodontic residency at University of Southern California.
Dr. Niazi’s experience as a general dentist is an asset in providing a multidisciplinary approach to long-term treatment in conjunction with a patient’s general dentist. Dr. Niazi believes root canal treatment is the best method of saving teeth and improving oral health, an essential part of a patient’s overall health. He believes that endodontic treatment should be efficient, comfortable for the patient, and have long-lasting results. He encourages general dentists to learn endodontic science and clinical nuances to be able to best treatment plan and refer when needed.
Tina Olsson, DMD, MSD
Dr. Olsson earned her Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania. She is a recipient of the Army’s Health Professional Scholarship Program and served as a dental officer for four years directly after graduating from dental school. During that time, she completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency program.
Dr. Olsson practiced general dentistry for almost 10 years prior to specializing in Endodontics. She had the opportunity to move frequently while supporting her husband’s military career. The relocation adventures allowed Dr. Olsson to work in a variety of clinical settings to include military settings at home and while deployed. She has worked with a hospital-based practice caring for the medically compromised. She provided dental care in retirement communities where she learned to work closely with the prosthodontic lab. She has worked with corporate practices treating primarily children and she has worked with private practices devoted to comprehensive care. Dr. Olsson worked closely with the specialist in her community during those years. She earned her FAGD in 2010 and has remained active with the AGD throughout the years.
Dr. Olsson earned her MSD and Certificate in Endodontics at the University of Washington. She remains close with her mentors and as affiliate faculty enjoys helping dental students in the endodontic department. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics.
