Course Description
Three Day hands-on course designed for general dentists who wish to expand beyond simple dental extractions and want to gain a better understanding on the fundamentals of safe, surgical extraction techniques. This course is geared to guide the general dentist on the fundamentals of simple and surgical dental extractions including incision design, flap elevation, sectioning of teeth, and advanced suturing techniques. Dentists will also gain knowledge on basic alveolar socket preservation techniques utilizing resorbable and non-resorbable membranes in preparation for implant placement.
“Surgical Extractions for the General Dentist” is broken into two parts – day one is a didactic review of patient evaluation/selection as well as fundamentals of exodontia techniques. The latter half of day one involves a hands-on benchtop workshop to review surgical extraction techniques on pig’s jaws. Days two and three are “Live-Patient” clinic days where doctors will be able to encounter surgical extractions, multiple teeth extraction cases, alveolar socket preservation, and basic impaction cases. All participants are given direct instruction by the clinical faculty. Each clinic day begins with a treatment plan review by the clinical faculty and concludes with a self-assessment/review of cases by participants.
Learning Objectives:
*Gain a better understanding of patients who are medically stable to be treated in the general dentist’s office.
