Unsticking the Stuck And Otherwise Just Not Giving a _uck. AKA: Come on Down to the Poetry Playground. AKA: There's Everywhere To Go From Here: In this work(play)shop, we'll visit/revisit Natalie Goldberg's concept of freewriting before we dig into thoughtfully crafted writing prompts and exercises. We'll dip into the rich generative space of curiosity, daring, and play to activate our unique voices, rhythms, and details. The goal is for you to surprise yourself - to take your own breath away - to leave your own self wondering. You'll come away with a set of tools and prompts to guide you to a rich generative writing practice. This workshop is open to writers of all genres and all levels, including those who don't identify as writers.
Unbound is a welcoming monthly writing community organized by the Oneota Valley Literary Foundation, created to support writers of all backgrounds and experience levels. This is a form-free space—whether you write poetry, prose, journaling, or something entirely your own, all are welcome. Each session offers time to connect with fellow creatives, spark ideas, and engage in guided writing. When available, visiting authors join the group to share insights into their craft and creative process, offering participants a deeper look into the writing life. Unbound meets on the last Sunday of each month from 4:00 to 6:00pm at ArtHaus in Decorah. Bring a notebook, your favorite pen, and whatever’s been waiting to be written.
From the crossroads of writing and social practice, Franciszka Voeltz writes poems to go on a portable typewriter for magnificent strangers, curates a collective poem to the entire planet, and facilitates community writing events and workshops. Voeltz's chapbook 8 August is available from Vegetarian Alcoholic Press, and their work has appeared in journals including Dark Mountain, Analecta Literary Journal, and Adrienne. Voeltz is the recipient of various poetry fellowships including those granted by the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation, Santa Fe Art Institute, and Art Farm. They earned an MFA in Writing from the University of California, San Diego and are a Springboard for Arts 2023-2025 Rural Regenerator Fellow.
