Join for Lawn Chair Night Thursday, August 14 on Washington Street, right outside of Impact Coffee at 6PM -- featuring The Bird Hunters! This evening is sponsored by four downtown retailers who are passionate about music and community events: The Getup + Rendered Unique + Jubliee + Modish.
The charm is in the simplicity: bring a lawn chair (or a blanket), find a patch of grass or a stretch of sidewalk, and settle in for an evening of great music and community spirit. And the best part — its free! Held on Thursday evenings throughout the summer (June-August), Lawn Chair Night transforms Downtown Decorah into a welcoming concert venue. Whether you’re a fan of bluegrass, jazz, folk, or hometown marching bands, the series features a wide range of musical acts that reflect the heart and soul of the region.
This week: The Bird Hunters are a Des Moines–based quartet whose self-styled “Midwest Country” sound blends Americana, indie, and ’90s alt into rousing, foot-stomping country with real storytelling at its core. Their name is a nod to a Turnpike Troubadours song—and in spirit, they carry forward the heartfelt narrative style of that influence while refusing to sacrifice authenticity for entertainment. Led by singer/songwriter Ethridge Netz and featuring Blake Van Houten on bass (and production), Chris Hansen on drums, and Trevor Hill on pedal steel and auxiliary instruments, they released their debut album She Lets Me Ramble on Golden Bear Records. Whether performing at songwriter showcases like Reiman Gardens or community concert series, they deliver dynamic performances—their telecasters twang proudly, rhythms invite two-steppers, and the lyrics stay honest and grounded.
Lawn Chair Night has been a program of Downtown Decorah Betterment for more than 25 years and is one of the community’s most beloved traditions as a weekly summer series of free outdoor concerts that brings locals and visitors together under the open sky. It's now made possible by DDBA in partnership with Visit Decorah Tourism, Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce, and Impact Coffee. The 2025 season is generously supported by top sponsors AJ Realty, Oneota Community Food Co-op, and ITC... along with 10+ supporting sponsors for specific nights throughout the season. This free, public event features both local and regional talent.
In the event of rain, the event will be moved inside Impact Coffee. Rain announcements will be made on Facebook's Visit Decorah page and the Downtown Decorah Betterment page.
