A lone traveller follows a disturbed street preacher to a run-down apartment and is not going to leave until he has what he really wanted from the beginning. But what the man doesn’t know will shake the foundations of his belief, as a sinister truth is revealed. The preacher’s passion springs from wells darker and deeper than the man could have imagined, and only a deal that neither wants will offer a way out…unless…

A story of disillusion, love and desire, 'The Serpent’s Smile' is a tragi-comic tale that explores God’s motives, and who should really bear blame for the whole bloody mess.

Featuring Greg Ulfan, Karlis Zaid and Lucy Best, 'The Serpent's Smile' is written by award winning and critically acclaimed playwright and screenwriter, (and Trentham resident) Darren Markey. This play reading is part of the 2025 Trentham Words in Winter festival.
