This workshop is hosted by Sister, We Hear You in partnership with St. Jude House, a domestic violence center in Crown Point, IN. The workshop will be led by trained officers and advocates.

This event will enable you to:

Recognize the Signs of Unhealthy Relationships
You’ll learn how to identify red flags in dating situations, understand the cycle of abuse, and know the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviors.

Understand Consent and How to Set Clear Boundaries
You'll gain a deeper understanding of what consent looks and sounds like, how to communicate your boundaries clearly, and how to respect others’ boundaries too.

Build Situational Awareness and Trust Your Instincts
You’ll develop tools to help you stay alert in social settings, recognize when something feels off, and respond confidently in uncomfortable or risky situations.

Learn and Practice Self-Defense Techniques
You’ll be introduced to practical, beginner-friendly self-defense moves that you can use to protect yourself in real-world scenarios, with time to practice in a safe environment.

Feel Confident Advocating for Yourself and Others
You’ll build the confidence to speak up, set and defend your boundaries, and support friends in making safe, respectful choices, creating a community where everyone looks out for each other.

Get Connected to Support and Resources
You’ll leave with information on where to turn for help, whether for yourself or a friend, including local and national hotlines, support groups, or community resources.

• Up to 19% of teens experience dating violence.
• 1.5 million teenagers in the U.S. say they have experienced abusive behavior in a relationship.
• 43% of dating college women report experiencing violence and abuse from a partner.
• 1 in 12 teens face physical, sexual, emotional, or verbal abuse from a dating partner.
• 1 in 4 women who experience physical and/or sexual violence are first victimized between the ages of 11 and 17.
• Only 9% of teens in abusive relationships report the abuse.
• Kids who witness abuse between their parents are 15 times more likely to enter an abusive relationship themselves.
• Stalking behaviors are alarmingly prevalent, with about half of all teens reporting they've been stalked or harassed.
