Dragonfly Farm
456 Croton Avenue, Cortlandt Manor, United States
The backbone of this meadow will be prairie dropseed, a graceful warm season grass of the shortgrass prairie. Prairie dropseed grows in low fountain-shaped clumps about 12" high. In between the clumps, the garden design calls for perennial wildflowers from the Northeast and Midwest that will complete the meadow with season-long color and nourishment for insects and birds. A prairie dropseed meadow is a good choice for the homeowner who wants to transform a sunny piece of lawn but is wary of the three-to-four-foot height of so many locally native perennials.
Participants are invited to a Zoom meeting on Sunday, February 23th (10:00-10:40 A.M.) to view a slideshow of the plants and the planting plan, and learn about site preparation. For those unable to attend the Zoom, the slideshow will be available for independent viewing. The on-site workshop will take place at 456 Croton Ave in Cortlandt Manor on Saturday, June 28th at 8:30am. At this time participants will receive and transplant into trays the seedlings that will populate their meadows. The recommended time frame after that is to maintain the seedlings in their trays until September, and plant them in the ground once the weather has begun to cool off.
Also check out other Workshops in Cortlandt Manor.
