Whether you're picking up a camera for the first time or finally ready to move beyond auto mode, this 4-class beginner workshop will guide you step-by-step into the world of photography. With hands-on practice and creative exploration, you'll build a strong foundation—and start telling powerful visual stories with confidence.
Class 1: Light, Subject & Composition (June 10th, 5:30pm - 6:30pm)
We’ll kick things off by understanding the essentials—light, subject choice (genre), and the building blocks of strong composition. You’ll learn the classic “rules” of photography—and how to break them with purpose and style.
Class 2: Shutter Speed in Action (June 11th, 5:30pm - 7:30pm)
Time to take it outside! You’ll explore how shutter speed impacts motion and mood in your images. From freezing action to capturing blur, you’ll get hands-on tips for sharper, more intentional photos.
Class 3: Aperture & Visual Storytelling (June 17th, 5:30 - 6:30pm)
This week, we’ll focus on aperture and how it affects both sharpness and depth. You’ll discover how to use aperture and shutter speed together to guide the viewer’s eye and bring your story to life.
Class 4: ISO, Histograms & Light Meters (June 18th, 5:30pm - 7:30pm)
In our final class, we’ll dive into ISO and its role in exposure. You’ll also learn how to read histograms and use your camera’s light meter to master exposure in any lighting condition. Get ready to shoot, experiment, and gain real confidence in full manual mode.
If you do not own a camera, don’t worry; I have some you can use during class time. Just bring a memory card 32gb or larger; Click Here for example Sample SD Card (or visit this class listing on our website: artcentercc.org)
If you do own a camera, download your user manual to your phone or tablet and bring it with you.
