K Space Contemporary is honored to present “Parte de usted”, a solo exhibition of new works of art by Omar Gonzalez.
The exhibition opens with ArtWalk on Friday, August 1, from 6 to 10 pm, and will run through September 25, 2025.
Omar González is a multidisciplinary artist and Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University–Kingsville, currently living in Rockport, TX. A sixth-generation Tejano, González draws on his South Texas roots and Mexican heritage to explore themes of labor, cultural identity, and personal iconography.
Parte de usted is a deeply personal exploration of grief, cultural heritage, and familial bonds. Centered on the enduring impact of a parent-child relationship, the exhibition reflects on themes of memory, loss, and legacy through visual symbolism and metaphor.
The artist explains, “After my father's passing from lung cancer at the beginning of 2024, I have been striving to make sense of the void his absence has left behind.” The exhibition draws from the original meaning of the word “bereavement”—a state of deprivation—to articulate the artist’s current experience.
Objects within the work represent the presence of memory even in physical absence. They remind us that while a father may no longer be present in the body, his essence and teachings persist, continuing to guide and inspire.
This exhibition seeks to capture the essence of connection—grounding the work in cultural specificity while also addressing universal themes of remembrance. It invites viewers to reflect on their own experiences with grief and loss. Parte de usted acknowledges the pain of losing a loved one while appreciating the bonds that connect us.
