About the event

Third Coast Biennial 2025

K Space Contemporary proudly presents the 2025 Third Coast Biennial, a national juried competition and exhibition of contemporary works of art from across the US.

Third Coast National will be on display August 1 through September 19, 2025. A reception for the artists will be held Friday, August 1, 6 to 10 pm. Juror Leandra Urrutia will give a gallery talk and present awards. In addition, the entire exhibition will be available for online viewing at www.kspacecontemporary.org .

This year’s juror is Leandra Urrutia, an object maker and storyteller based in Corpus Christi, Texas. Borrowing parts of the human form, she makes powerful compositions and installations that showcase her unconventional creative sensibilities. Her studio work illustrates struggles between body and mind from a woman-centered standpoint as one experiences injustice, injury, aging, fate, and fortitude. Her Mexican-American heritage, Catholic upbringing, interest in aggressive sports, and visits to China continue to bring an unorthodox influence to the ceramic and mixed media sculptures she invents.

Leandra Urrutia is an award-winning artist and educator whose honors include the Windgate Artist-in-Residence Award, the McKnight Residency from Northern Clay Center, the ArtsMemphis Emmett O’Ryan Award, and NCECA’s Emerging Artist Award. Her work appears in the 500 Figures in Clay and 500 Ceramic Sculptures book series. A founding member of the TETRA Collective and Studio Nong, Urrutia creates both sculptural and functional ceramics. She currently leads the ceramics program at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi.

This year’s call for entries drew 480 submissions from 160 artists. From those, 50 works by 48 artists representing 11 states were selected for inclusion. Congratulations to all of the participating artists!
The Third Coast Biennial is made possible with support from AEP Texas, the Texas Commission on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Coastal Bend Community Foundation.
