Accomplished in both oil and pastels, Padgett is featuring her jewel-like pastel still lifes in Splendor in the Everyday, especially of the season’s bounty…luscious cherries, verdant fennel and more . “Pastel is a wonderfully versatile, colorful medium,” she noted, “not affected by temperature or humidity, it can go anywhere. No solvents, mediums, or special tools are necessary.”
Mary Padgett studied at Boston University (BFA Painting) and Syracuse University (MFA Printmaking). She has taught painting and color courses for Syracuse University and Cazenovia College, and conducts workshops in the US and abroad. With a studio in New Woodstock, New York, she is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and has been featured in American Artist and Pastel Journal. Her paintings are in numerous private and public collections. Her many exhibitions include competition awards from the Pastel Society of America, the Fenimore Art Museum and the Finger Lakes Plein Air. Locally, her work was first featured at Gallery 53 Artworks in the Smithy in the 1980s.
Padgett will also be offering a one-day ‘plein air’ workshop for all levels on Thursday June 25, 10-5. Tuition will include lunch. Minimum enrollment necessary for workshop to take place.
