3923 North High Street, Columbus, United States
Join the Reimagining Columbus Team, Saturday, Aug. 16 in Whetstone Park to explore the outcomes of community conversations surrounding our identity, our stories and how they are presented in our city.
Participants are invited to assemble at any time between 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. at Whetstone Park’s Shelter House 1 for a rolling event that will include a recommended concept for how the Christopher Columbus statue could be reintroduced to the community. This will be a walking event, covering about 1.5 miles of parkland in increments of approximately 30 minutes. Families and residents of all ages can arrive at any time during the three-hour window and stay as long as they like.
The event will also include:
The journey begins in the meadow, where the insightful Kimberly Danielle will share how your invaluable stories and perspectives have profoundly shaped the project's outcomes. From there, participants will transition into the woods, where the collective vision will be unveiled regarding the future disposition of the statue and the exciting ideas for public art installations on City Hall’s campus.
Following this exploration of the project outcomes, Mr. Jared the Nature Guy will lead engaging activities designed for all ages, set along Adena Brooke. Afterward, a period of free play will be encouraged in the woods, allowing for relaxed enjoyment and connection with nature.
As the afternoon wraps up, Shelly Corbin will present a compelling Indigenous prophecy for the future of our beloved city. This forward-looking presentation will offer insights and inspiration for what lies ahead.
After our journey through the woods, participants will be invited to gather at the Shelter House to share a meal together. This shared meal will provide an opportunity to reflect on the day's discussions and celebrate the collaborative spirit that has driven the Reimagining Columbus initiative.
