An Afternoon of Brazilian Choro Music House Concert

Come and experience live music in an intimate house concert setting.

For this concert, we are welcoming two extraordinary musicians coming down from Boston. The two have a musical connection that transcends their backgrounds and crystallizes around their passion for Brazilian choro music.

Catherine Bent, an alumna of Cirque du Soleil, has performed and recorded with Joe Jackson, Lee Konitz, Donna Summer, and many others. She is regarded in Brazil as the leading cellist in choro. Ian Coury is an award-winning 10-string bandolim player and composer from Brazil who has shared stages with Brazilian legends like Toninho Horta and Hamilton de Holanda.

Choro music originated in Rio de Janeiro in the late19th century and is considered Brazil’s first urban popular music. It is lively and full of syncopation and counterpoint. Some might say choro is across between early jazz and classical music. Whatever you want to call it, it is fun and lively, and once you hear it, you’ll be hooked!

There is nothing better than seeing live music in a setting as intimate as someone’s home! What’s more, house concerts are very social! You get to meet the musicians, chat with your neighbors, and make new friends. All this while sipping wine and enjoying the delicious food people bring to share.

We ask for a donation of $25 that goes directly to the artists. And please bring a dish or beverage to share. This is a potluck.
