Join artist Paul Scott for a richly illustrated narrative presentation, referencing artworks and objects from the Cincinnati Art Museum and his exhibition Recall. Reframe. Respond. The Art of Paul Scott. At first glance, Scott’s transfer-printed tableware may seem familiar—like something you have seen in your grandparents’ china cabinet or a second-hand shop. Look closer, and you will notice subtle differences that add up to a powerful narrative shift. Scott subverts this seemingly unassuming blue-and-white “cultural wallpaper” to create sharp, thought-provoking social commentary. This talk will detail the movement of patterns and images through media, histories, and geographies as blue-and-white ceramics became imbued with meaning and embedded in memory. Scott will discuss his process of creating new commemoratives for the 21st century and outline some of the hidden stories and unexpected connections found through his extensive research in ceramic industry archives.
