Intro to Navigation & Map Reading

A practical, 1 day course aimed at people with little or no navigation experience. Whether you are new to the outdoors, have been relying on others or well-defined routes and guide books, this introduction is the starting point for a variety of individuals who are looking to develop their outdoor skills.

By the end of the day, you will have acquired a good understanding of the following:

• Different types of Maps & Map Scales
• Navigation Apps
• Map Symbols
• Grid references
• Orientation of a map using features and with a compass
• Using Linear features to Navigate
• Route / leg planning
• Safety

On completion of this course you will be in a good position to attend the NNAS Silver Award (Straight to Silver).
