JOE COCKER TRIBUTE CONCERT
HASLAND CLUB TUESDAY 16th SEPTEMBER
Tickets available soon £10.00
Join us for an intimate evening of acoustic music to raise the £800 needed for the erection of a Blue Plaque to commemorate the demo recording on Chatsworth Road in 1966 that secured the recording contract for his number one record.
Local musicians will perform acoustic versions of songs recorded by and associated with Joe during his career ..
In 1967 we had an upstairs flat on the corner of Chatsworth Road and Schoolboard Lane, where, in the December of that year, I recorded a demo tape with Joe Cocker and his bass guitarist/keyboard player, Chris Stainton, which David took down to publicist Tone Hall in London.
It secured him a recording contract with Regal Zonophone, which resulted in his number one hit record, ‘With a Little Help From My Friends’ in December 1968.
Councillor Ed Fordham and Chesterfield Civic Society have acquired permission for a Blue Plaque to be fixed to the property to commemorate the event.
The cost for this will be £800, and David McPhie and Aaron Brown (S40Time) will be hosting an evening of ‘live’ music at the Hasland Club on the evening of Tuesday September 16th, featuring local musicians performing songs associated with Joe Cocker, and a ‘stage panel’ of those who were involved with Joe in the Sheffield and Chesterfield music scene of the Sixties; to raise the money for the plaque.
