About the Speaker:
Dr. H. SHAKILA is a Retired Professor from the Department of Molecular Microbiology, School of Biotechnology, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai – 625021, Tamil Nadu. For the past twenty years she worked in the field of Immunology where her area of interest was towards developing DNA vaccines for Tuberculosis and HIV. She also studied the importance of various adjuvants for better vaccines against infectious diseases.
About the Lecture:
This year The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2025 has been awarded to Mary E. Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell and Shimon Sakaguchi for their groundbreaking discoveries concerning peripheral immune tolerance that prevents the immune system from harming the body. The laureates’ discoveries launched the field of peripheral tolerance, spurring the development of medical treatments for cancer and autoimmune diseases and may also lead to more successful transplantations. This talk would highlight about the peripheral immune tolerance and the importance of immune tolerance in preventing autoimmune diseases and treating cancer.
