“The Water is Wide” - Forte Men’s Choir - May 11 at the Kirk

The Forte Men’s Choir offers their annual musical bouquet for Mothers Day. It’s on Sunday, May 11th, 2:30 pm at the Kirk of St. James in Charlottetown.

A bouquet? Yes indeed, a multi-coloured variety of springtime blossoms. The concert title, “The Water is Wide”, is a folk-song about love. There’s an invitation to merry-making — a drinking round by Mozart. There’s a triple-decker of rollicking sea pieces: The Wellerman, Fogarty’s Cove and the Drunken Sailor, as well as an eerily mournful song from whalers trapped in the Arctic ice. Add two hits from Les Mis, and a couple of lovely lyrical pieces: the Skye Boat Song and The Parting Glass. And the Forte men hope you’ll “Save the Last Dance for Me.”

Forte is the 18-member choir of male voices directed by Dr. Margot Rejskind. Jacqueline Sorenson Young provides piano accompaniment. Ross Boyd is the guest guitar artist.
