Join us for an enlightening session with NRC experts from the Aquatic and Crop Resource Development Research Centre (ACRD) and Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP). They will share insights into developing and adapting biotechnologies in the biomarine and agriculture sectors, and developing innovation in areas such as atypical fermentation, bioprocessing, marine bioproducts, aquatic nutrition, and beyond. Info: Presenter: Fabrice Berrué received his Ph.D. from the University of Nice, France, in 2005. He then moved to the University of Prince Edward Island, where he led research activities in both an academic lab and at Nautilus Biosciences Canada Inc., focusing on developing marine natural products for applications in human health and wellness. In 2015, Fabrice joined the NRC as a Research Officer and now serves as the Acting Director of Research at the Aquatic and Crop Resource Development (ACRD) Research Centre. His team is committed to advancing technologies that support the blue bioeconomy by transforming marine bioresources and waste streams into sustainable commercial products while preserving marine ecosystems.
Info: Presenter: Chuck Terrio, a technical officer and facility coordinator with ACRD, came to the NRC 3 years ago from Bio Food Tech. Chuck oversees all equipment and facility maintenance at the atypical fermentation facility, including both fermentation suites. He brings the ability to “build what we need”, enabling the team to customize fermentation and bioprocessing equipment for specific client projects.
Info: Presenter: Marlene Walker is an Industrial Technology Advisor with the NRC-IRAP, located in Charlottetown and has been with the program for over 10 years. Prior to joining the NRC, she earned a Master's degree from McMaster University and then spent more than 20 years in the in-vitro diagnostic medical device industry in positions of Scientific Director and Director of Quality Systems. Marlene now works with a variety of technology companies across the Atlantic provinces and in the territory of Nunavut to support the commercial growth of innovation in Canada.
Info: Presenter: Sandie LeClair is a Business Development Officer with ACRDC. Upon graduating with her Masters of Science from UPEI, Sandie spent several years as a research scientist in academia, before moving into private industry, first in vaccine development and then into quality control. In 2018, Sandra accepted a position as Quality Assurance Director at a cannabis production facility in PEI, and eventually started her own quality assurance consulting business. In 2023, Sandra joined UPEI as a Business Development Officer, which then led to a BDO position with the NRC’s ACRD Research Centre.
