A reflection of the industrial grime and perpetual sunny glow of Los Angeles, Casket Cassette (Constant Williams) blends euphoria and melancholy in an expression of existential perseverance. Casket Cassette’s depressingly danceable music takes a contemporary spin on the dark sounds of the 1980s post-punk movement. The project takes its name from a memory Williams has from childhood of his father recording a live song onto a cassette tape, then placing the tape into his grandfather’s casket as it was being lowered into the ground. Williams’ lyrics often reflect upon similarly somber themes such as mental health struggles, loss, heartbreak, addiction and recovery—while also offering glimmers of hope, humor and a general determination to overcome. Williams splits his time between Los Angeles, CA, and Iowa City, IA, where he is pursuing an MFA in poetry at the Iowa Writers Workshop.

Preferred Artist Short Bio (text format): FLOATS are a Texas based band that was started in late 2017 by Mark Perez as a way to release music that was taking up space on his laptop. Blending their influences of surf punk, synth riffs and heavy bass tones notably heard on their track “Dancing with our feet” to create an atmosphere that anyone can sway or dance to. Only playing a handful of shows in the midst of 2018-2019 the band came back full swing in the summer of 2022. From opening, to touring with notable acts and friends, to eventually headlining the smell in Los Angeles, CA all in less than a year. Current members consist of bassist/brother Noel Perez and drummer Edward Gutierrez; the trio is unstoppable as the band continues to grow in Southern California, Texas and will continue to expand worldwide.
