We’re thrilled to welcome The Cockman Family to the Charlotte Folk Society stage on Friday, June 14th for a special Gathering concert at the Unitarian Universalist Community of Charlotte.
Hailing from Sherrill’s Ford, NC, The Cockman Family has earned national acclaim for their unique blend of bluegrass gospel, characterized by tight family harmonies and heartfelt original songs. Named one of the “12 Most Creative Families in America” by American Greeting Cards and USA Today Weekend, their performances have inspired audiences across the Southeast.
In 2023, they were inducted into the Blue Ridge Music Hall of Fame—a testament to their impact on the regional music scene. Over the years, they’ve received numerous nominations from the Country Gospel Music Association and the International Country Gospel Music Association, and were honored with the Community Traditions Award by the North Carolina Folklore Society.
You may recognize them from the PBS special Maker of the Stars: A Cockman Family Christmas or their appearances on The Arthur Smith Show, Now & Then. Their musical prowess spans generations:
-Billy Cockman is a national banjo champion
-Ben Cockman is a multi-time national flatpicking guitar champion
-Caroline Cockman Fisher is an award-winning singer and songwriter
-John Cockman Jr. teaches fiddle online at his popular site BluegrassDaddy.com
-And David Cockman—while lacking formal awards for bass—is every bit as talented (just ask his siblings!).
-Rounding out the group is John Cockman Sr., a steady presence on guitar and the foundation of this incredible musical family.
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience one of North Carolina’s most cherished musical treasures. Mark your calendars and join us for an unforgettable evening of music, tradition, and family harmony.
