The morning after the Winter Solstice is the perfect time to get outdoors and explore the absolutely stunning backdrop to our city. With the sun rising at its latest time of the year, we’ll also be starting a little later than last time. The perfect way to honour the turning point of winter, with fresh air, good company and a trail that’s sure to warm you up!
We’re hiking the Zamia Track, a 14km one-way trail from the First Turkey trailhead to the summit of Nurim (Mt Archer). It winds through native bush and rainforest gullies, finishing at Fraser Park with beautiful views over the region.
This is a free community walk open to most fitness levels. Whether you’re an experienced bushwalker or just keen to move your body and meet new people, this is about connection, movement and showing up as you are. We’ll keep a steady, inclusive pace and no one will be left behind.
Once we reach the top, we’ll coordinate lifts back down to the trailhead. If you have someone who can meet you at the summit or you’re happy to help with car shuttles, please let me know…we’ll sort it out based on who’s coming.
After the walk, I’m thinking breakfast or brunch! Depending on numbers, we might book a table somewhere…or just go with the flow and find a local spot that works. Nothing fancy, just a chance to refuel and keep the good chats going if you’re keen.
What to bring:
– At least 2L of water
– Snacks or a light breakfast
– A small backpack
– Jacket or warm layer (the temperature is cooler on the mountain, but we will get a little sweaty as we ascend)
– Comfortable walking shoes or trail runners
– Sunscreen and a hat
– Good vibes ✨
Please note:
– No dogs allowed (this trail runs through the national park)
– No need to register, just click “Going” to help me get a rough idea of numbers. If you are running late and won’t get there until after 6:15am you’ll just need to catch up 🙃
– I will have a first aid kit on me, but please don’t make me need it!
