Jim Oliver was born in Bremerton, Washington. He graduated from College Park High in Pleasant Hill, California and began his music career in the army playing in a band at officer and NCO clubs.
His musical influences include The Beatles, Elvis, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Chicago, The Police and newer bands like Coldplay and OneRepublic. He also performs with separate Beatles and Elvis shows. For his Beatles show, he dons a Sgt. Pepper’s outfit as John Lennon.
Some of Jim’s musical accomplishments include: 45rpm in 1978, EP in 1979, album in 1986, CD in 2000, CD in 2007, backed up JJ Cale who wrote songs for Eric Clapton, backed up The Box Tops (who sang “The Letter” and “Cry Like A Baby”), won 1st place in 1990 for original song “Can You Hear Me” in the Songwriters Music Fair competition in Denver, CO, and won 1st place in 2010 at Casper’s Got Talent (video of Jim singing “Oh Darlin” by The Beatles can be seen on YouTube).
For Open Mic for Writers, writers are invited and encouraged to share their original works in ten-minute time slots.
