About the event

Evening Lecture: Forging History - The Story of Cooper’s Iron Works
The Bartow History Museum invites you to an Evening Lecture featuring local author and historian Robert C. Jones. In his talk, Forging History: The Story of Cooper’s Iron Works, Jones will delve into the founding of Cooper’s Furnace, its strategic role before and during the Civil War, and the haunting ruins left in its wake. The lecture will also highlight an 1890 description of the site by noted Southern journalist Bill Arp, offering a vivid post-war snapshot. Jones will conclude with a comparison to Hopewell Furnace, an intact iron foundry town in Pennsylvania that still exists today.

About Robert C. Jones
Robert C. Jones served for many years as President of the Kennesaw Historical Society and as a member of the executive board of the Kennesaw Museum Foundation, which played a key role in funding the 50,000-square-foot Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History. A prolific historian and writer, he has authored more than 50 books on subjects including the Civil War, Revolutionary War, World Wars I and II, the War of 1812, and ghost towns across America.
