Sunset Speaker Series: Coexisting with Beavers

This summer we are bringing back our Sunset Speaker Series outside of the Cedar Hat Classroom! Join us select Friday evenings at 7pm to learn from local experts. Our theme for the series is “Connections to Place.”

As ecosystem engineers, beavers have a big impact on our riparian and wetland ecosystems. Their activities have many benefits including increases to biodiversity, improvements to water quality, and an overall boost to ecosystem resilience. However, beaver interactions with human infrastructure often lead to conflicts with roads, homes, and agriculture. Beavers Northwest Executive Director Elyssa Kerr will dive into beaver ecology and benefits as well as the challenges and opportunities for living with beavers in a landscape dominated by human infrastructure.


About Elyssa/Beavers Northwest: Elyssa Kerr is the Executive Director of Beavers Northwest, a nonprofit that strives to increase acceptance and understanding of beavers to support healthier and more resilient ecosystems. Elyssa has been working with Beavers Northwest since 2017 to assist landowners and land managers with beaver conflicts, provide education and outreach to the wider Puget Sound community, and lead technical consultations and trainings throughout the Western US.
