About this Event

Queering Health: A Participatory Workshop

Join us on the 1st July at 6pm at Future Arts Collective Cymru (117 Queen Street, Cardiff) to take part in our workshop on themes of food justice, digestive health, and sustainable consumption with a queer lens!

Through facilitated conversations and participatory creative activities, we’ll unpack how our relationships with food are shaped by systems of oppression and privilege, and how a queer perspctive can help us to redefine our relationship with food, health and other species.

Meet our facilitators:

J. Beli Friel is a writer, artist, and performer who writes on the lines of transness, fatness, disability, and class. With a background in queer ecology and lived experience in a queer fat disabled body, Beli explores the interconnected oppressive structures that have created binaries of human/nonhuman, man/woman, fat/thin, mad/sane. They are particularly interested in how we hold multiple truths inside us, currently writing the Queer Be Longing series of essays exploring queer community, loneliness, and longing. Beli works within a fat liberationist, anti-racist, disability justice framework.

Lou Aphramor (they/qwe) is a queer Quaker, radical dietitian and performance poet . They are interested in collectively reimagining the stories we live out around food, bodies, and health, to develop liberatory alternatives. This involves practices for thinking beyond binaries of healthy/unhealthy, good/bad, human/nonhuman., or queering as process. They show how experiences of trauma and oppression are relevant to so-called diet related diseases in a framing that exposes, and seeks to interrupt, ableism, racism, fatmisia , colonialism, and related ideologies inherent in public health nutrition narratives.

Ymunwch â ni ar Gorffennaf 1af 6pm yn Future Arts Collective Cymru (117 Queen Street, Cardiff) i gymryd rhan yn ein gweithdy ar themâu megis cyfiawnder bwyd, iechyd y perfedd, a bwyta cynaliadwy, a hynny trwy lygaid cwiar!

Trwy sgyrsiau wedi'u hwyluso a gweithgareddau creadigol cyfranogol, byddwn yn trafod sut mae ein perthynas â bwyd yn cael ei ffurfio gan systemau o ormes (oppression) a braint, a sut gall persbectif cwiar ein helpu i ailddiffinio ein perthynas â bwyd, iechyd a rhywogaethau eraill.

Cofrestrwch drwy ddilyn y ddolen yn ein bio/trwy Eventbrite. Dim ond nifer cyfyngedig o lefydd sydd ar gael, felly cofrestrwch nawr er mwyn osgoi colli’r cyfle.

Pwy yw’r Hwyluswyr?

Mae J. Beli Friel yn artist sy’n perfformio ac awdur sy'n ysgrifennu am bynciau traws, ac am dewdra, anabledd, a dosbarth. Gyda chefndir mewn ecoleg cwiar a phrofiad o fyw mewn corff cwiar, tew ac anabl, mae Beli yn archwilio'r strwythurau gormesol rhyng-gysylltiedig sydd wedi creu deuoliaethau fel bod dynol/nid yn fod dynol, dyn/menyw, tew/tenau, gwallgof/call. Mae gan Beli ddiddordeb arbennig yn y modd y daliwn lawer o wirioneddau oddi mewn ni’n hunain. Mae Beli ar hyn o bryd yn ysgrifennu cyfres o draethodau o’r enw Queer Be Longing sy'n archwilio cymuned gwiar, unigrwydd, a hiraeth. Mae Beli yn gweithio oddi mewn i fframwaith sy’n cynnwys pynciau fel rhyddid tewdra, gwrth-hiliaeth a chyfiawnder anabledd.

Mae Lou Aphramor (nhw/ni) yn berson cwiar sy’n dilyn credoau’r Crynwyr, ac mae hefyd yn ddietegydd radical a bardd sy’n perfformio. Mae gan Lou ddiddordeb mewn ail-ddychmygu’r straeon rydyn ni'n eu byw o amgylch bwyd, cyrff ac iechyd, er mwyn datblygu dewisiadau amgen rhyddhaol. Mae hyn yn cynnwys arferion i feddwl y tu hwnt i ddeuoliaethau megis iach/afiach, da/drwg, bod dynol/nid yn fod dynol, neu’r broses o weld y byd trwy lygaid cwiar (queering). Mae Lou yn dangos sut mae profiadau o drawma a gormes yn berthnasol i glefydau sy’n gysylltiedig â diet, fel y'u gelwir, mewn fframwaith sy'n datgelu a cheisio tarfu ar ableddiaeth, hiliaeth, casineb o dewdra, gwladychiaeth, ac ideolegau cysylltiedig sy'n gynhenid i naratifau maeth iechyd cyhoeddus.

Os oes anghenion hygerdd ganddo, rhowch wybod i ni drwy ebostio dGVhc2VsLWNvb3AgfCBwcm90b24gISBtZQ==, i drafod pa gymorth y gallwn ei roi i sicrhau eich bod yn gallu ymuno â ni yn ddiogel a cyfforddus.
