“Be Prepared, Don't Be Scared”, a free preparedness event, organized by the Carbondale Crimestoppers, will be held September 13th from 1-4 pm at the Carbondale Civic Center.
This event, sponsored in part by SIH, State Farm and Aid For Women, will have a panel of experts including Emergency Management first responders, the Central United States Earthquake Consortium executive director, Brian Blake and others, discussing response to disasters, how to prepare for disasters and prevent crimes during disasters.
SIH's "Hidden in Plain Sight" will be available for viewing a simulated teenager's room to educate parents about potential indicators of risky behavior and drug use.
The event will also include guest speaker Proffessor Shelly Page addressing human trafficking especially during disasters. Professor Page’s influence extends far beyond the borders of the United States. She has been a powerful voice in international conferences, shedding light on the issue of sex trafficking.
A Mental Health Panel will discuss dealing with the stress of disasters.
Many not for profit organizations will be on hand with materials to assist you and your family for unexpected emergencies.
The Rotary will have their Disaster Trailer on display.
