Come DRIFT WITH THE DELEGATE!
Saturday June 21st!
Meet us at Cary’s Bridge in Southampton County. The bridge is located north of Courtland between Rt 35 and Popes Station Road. Meet at the boat landing which is marked with a state sign at the edge of a field near the bridge at 3:30. We’ll have it marked with yard signs as well. We plan to launch at 4:00.
The drift will take about an hour to an hour and a half. The take out spot will be on private property where we will have barbeque and cold beverages prepared. The river through this stretch is without obstacles, slow moving and beautiful.
Bring your kayak, canoe or Jon boat if you prefer. Have some snacks, beverage, bug spray, paddle and some sort of shoes that you do not mind getting wet. The snacks and beverages you bring are just for the boat trip. We have you covered once we pull out of the water. We will be putting in at a boat ramp and taking out at a sloped beach area.
My brother and I floated this section a couple of weeks ago and caught several nice fish, saw a Bald Eagle and no snakes. Having said that, this is the Nottoway River and it could happen. Of all things on my trip an otter startled me when it broke the surface right next to my kayak. It is a natural and scenic waterway so it is possible to see wildlife both good and bad.
Don’t have a kayak or canoe? Don’t worry, I’ll have a limited supply of loaners available. We will also have a volunteer or two to help shuttle people, boats and vehicles if desired.
Want to join us but might have an adversion to water! No problem, we have you covered. You can join us at the takeout spot which is located across the road from 19137 River Road, Courtland, VA. It is a gate with a dirt path by a field to the river. It too will be marked with campaign signs as well. We are planning on having a shuttle service there also. There will be tents at that location, torches to eliminate bugs and there may even be a bartender!
Come out and enjoy the day with us. Come see just how beautiful the nOTTOway River truly is. This is a free event although donations to the campaign are always welcomed.
