Intro to Woodcarving with Rotary Tools Workshop

In this three hour class, students will learn the basics of carving wood with rotary tools (think Dremels) as well as a few hand tools (such as coping saws, rasps and files) to create a beautiful necklace pendant.

We will begin with discussing the structure of wood and the issues that can present themselves when working with an organic material. We’ll then move on to looking at the tools we’ll be using and having a safety discussion.

The students will then choose from a selection of wood species, select a piece they’d like to work with, transfer their selected design onto the wood, and then get to carving!

At the end of the three hours, students will hopefully (wood is an organic material and unforseen things can happen) leave with a handcrafted piece of jewellery that’s sure to be the envy of all their friends, as well having learned a new skill or the start of a new hobby to take up!
