Highway 19 Concerts and Browntasauras Records present an evening of big city electric-jazz, funk and groove with Brooklyn, NY Trinidadian-born trumpeter Brownman Ali, who has toured the world performing with the likes of Jay-Z, Missy Elliot, Quincy Jones, Paul Simon and Beyoncé!! But for Brownman — in the tradition of Miles Davis playing the Blackhawk or the Village Vanguard in the 1960’s — there’s nothing like the creativity, spontaneity and energy that comes from an intimate enthusiastic audience at a small club performance. Don’t miss this rare opportunity when New York jazz comes to Campbell River!
Twice National Jazz Award winners BROWNMAN ELECTRYC TRIO is an electric-jazz powerhouse that explores Black American music art forms of hip-hop, funk, soul, r’n’b, and jungle through the jazz traditions of Miles Davis & Randy Brecker. This dynamic threesome combines virtuosic performance skills with a deep knowledge of the jazz lineage, set against an energized urban sonic backdrop.
Trinidadian-born, internationally acclaimed Brooklyn, NY based jazz trumpeter Brownman Ali is a protege of jazz legend Randy Brecker. In addition to leading his own ensembles, and touring with hip-hop royalty, Brownman is a highly sought after soloist picking up a 2024 JUNO nomination for “Jazz Album of the Year” with the Nick MacLean Quartet, and has been called “Canada’s preeminent jazz trumpet player” by the New York Village Voice, “the new standard in electric jazz” by NPR, New York (National Public Radio), and “one of the most exploratory voices in jazz trumpet today” by the Chicago Tribune.
Rounding out the trio is heavyweight Vancouver-based rhythm section of Colin Sankey on 6-string bass and Jordy McIntosh on drums.
The Highway 19 Concert Series is supported by the Province of BC through BC Arts Council and BC Live, and the Government of Canada’s Department of Canadian Heritage.
General admission tickets are available for $20 to be affordable to anyone who wishes to attend, or $30 help sustain this concert series.
