Step into the pastoral elegance of France’s Loire Valley, a region beloved not only for its fairy-tale châteaux and lush vineyards, but also for its rich tradition of artisanal goat cheese. In this immersive class, you’ll be guided through a curated tasting of iconic cheeses that define the terroir and character of this storied region.
We'll begin with a brief journey through the geography and cultural history of the Loire, where cheese-making has been deeply tied to seasonal rhythms, small-scale farms, and centuries of savoir-faire. You’ll learn what makes the Loire’s goat cheeses—known as chèvres—so distinctive, from the influence of the chalky soils to the gentle aging processes that bring out their full character. Each cheese tells a story of place, from grassy pastures to ancient limestone soils.
You’ll learn how to taste cheese like a pro—examining appearance, aroma, texture, and flavor—while pairing each bite with complementary sips of Loire wines like Sauvignon Blanc or dry Chenin. We’ll also touch on regional pairings: crusty baguette, walnuts, seasonal fruits, and even a touch of local honey.
Whether you're a casual enthusiast or a dedicated cheese lover, this tasting offers a flavorful, hands-on way to experience the Loire’s rich culinary heritage. No passport required!
